Sky-High Ice Gliders

High-wire Troupe/ Lyra Act

The Sky-High Ice Gliders also known as the Makarov Troupe make their United States debut with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey®, and this thrill-seeking family from Russia takes the art of high wire walking to a whole new level. The performers combine intricate acrobatic skills and extreme agility to perform an amazing act on a wire that repositions itself both in height and incline. The troupe is led by creator and father, Sergey Makarov, and includes his two tremendously talented daughters Karina and Elina, and their high-wire walking husbands Sergey and Mikhail.

The troupe’s fearless focus, balance, and dexterity help accomplish daredevilry on a wire that is only an inch wide. During the act, audiences witness incredible stunts including Sergey and Mikhail walking across the wire with their wives balanced on top of their heads, Karina and Elina performing splits across the wire, and to top it off, an unbelievable somersault. “We work very hard, and hope that the audience will gasp when they see us perform,” adds troupe leader Sergey.

In addition to performing in the family high-wire act, Karina and Elina also present a breathtaking Lyra act. The two women take turns performing on the single Lyra, while simultaneously suspended as they gracefully execute aerial acrobatics. “The girls are very elegant the audience will be impressed by that.”

Prior to joining Ringling Bros. ®, the troupe toured all over the world including Saudi Arabia, Japan, United Arabic Emirates, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Germany, Italy, and The Netherlands.
Sergey was recently honored by the Ministry of Culture and Arts in Russia, with the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, an award for dedicating more than 30 years to his artistic profession, as well as his exceptional leadership as a performer.
