Since the legendary snowfall of March 1980, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® and the name "Hampton Roads", when used in the same sentence, has become a local prediction for snowfall. It all hearkens back to a wintry weather episode that literally shut down the region for about four days when Ringling Bros.® was in town in March of 1980. Hundreds of spectators who braved the conditions and traveled to the Norfolk Scope to take in a performance of The Greatest Show On Earth® were forced to spend the night inside of Norfolk Scope and Chrysler Hall. When it was all over, Norfolk was left with almost 42 inches of snow. And since then, the folklore continues-- snow and Ringling Bros. go hand-in-hand in the Hampton Roads area. It has become commonplace to see a few flakes here and there (sometimes giving in to greater accumulations) as the majestic Ringling Bros. elephants and horses walk to the arenas.
So what will happen when the dates for The Greatest Show On Earth move to April? Should Hampton Roads brace for a great snowfall??? If the legend holds true, this area will see one of the latest snowfalls in the region's history!

**To be eligible, participants must send their name, phone number, mailing address and email address to snowpromo@feldinc.com no later than 11:59 PM, March 30, 2009. Snow fall must occur between Apr. 16-19 (Norfolk) or Apr. 22-26 (Hampton), 2009. Snow must fall, be observed, and recorded by the National Weather Service at Norfolk International Airport (Apr. 16-19) or Newport News International Airport (Apr. 22-26). Snow must accumulate to 1.5 " or better. One complimentary ticket will be awarded per email address if snow fall is recorded. Complimentary ticket will not include seating in Circus Celebrity, Front Row, or VIP seats. Promotional or complimentary tickets hold no cash value.
