Alpacas and Llamas

  1. When annoyed, llamas and alpacas spit.
  2. Llamas have a squarish body frame, and alpacas have a rounded frame.
  3. Llamas and alpacas are normally sheared every two years.
  4. Llamas are pack animals that can carry up to 130 pounds and travel 15 to 20 miles per day.
  5. Alpaca wool is extremely lightweight, but is very warm and resistant to rain and snow.

Goats

  1. Female goats are called does or nannies, and young goats are called kids.
  2. Multiple births are normal in goats, with a high percentage of twins and triplets, thus giving several breeds an average litter size above two per doe.
  3. Male goats, called bucks or billies, usually have a beard.

Zebras

  1. Zebras often form mixed herds with antelopes to gain protection from predators.
  2. The mountain zebra and Grevy's zebra are endangered due to hunting.
  3. Young foals weigh between 70 and 80 pounds at birth.
